How the Pharmaceutical Companies Manipulate the World 

The New York Times recently reported that a pharmaceutical company influenced doctors with " kickbacks, in the form of baseball tickets and gift certificates to expensive restaurants as well as paid vacations. The complaint also charges that the company separately ran so-called seeding studies, or trials that were really marketing efforts to promote the drugs' use by doctors. The next time you hear an advertisement that trumpets a pharmaceutical product as being "preferred by doctors", remember, those doctors may be paid money to prefer that product. There are dozens of ways doctors can be "compensated" by drug companies from paying the doctor to let the pharmaceutical representative watch the doctor write prescriptions, to free seminars in plush vacation spots to the literally free lunch with the pharmaceutical representative.
